Utada Hikaru~This Is The One~

This Is The One-8/10
On And On-Starting off the album is the somewhat upbeat track On And On, I really like this track and I find it to be a hot opening track for this album. From what I can tell and have heard from others it is reported that she is going for a more “mainstream” sound for the American audience and hopefully it works. This track and its lyrical content makes me think of a Exodus ’04 part II, either way it’s a good intro track.
Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence-FYI-I really love Hikki’s vocals in this song, she is one of the artists that knows just how to use her voice for the perfect setting of a musical arrangement. I love the lyrics for this song as well, so far this album is turning out really good!
Apple And Cinnamon-This is prolly my favorite track so far, and it will prolly be my favorite track overall from this album. This song is like one of those poppy songs you can’t get outta your head kinda like Lady GaGa’s Poker Face…but this song is slower. “Like apple and cinnamon, like apple and cinnamon, like apple and cinnamon.” It’s so catchy and the lyrical content about losing a love is just sad, but it’s a really great song.
Taking My Money Back-This song kinda reminds me of a Destiny’s Child song…I think it reminds me of Bills, Bills, Bills. This really isn’t too good of a song, but I could see myself giving it a few listens.
This One (Crying Like A Child)-I love the little trailing off notes she does in the opening of the song, the lyrics are pretty…well somewhat sad and they kinda make me cry. Is this song about Kiriya Kazuaki?…who knows, but it is a true gem, and a lovely ballad from Hikki.
Automatic Part II-Of all things I never expected an Automatic Part II…let alone in English! Automatic has to be one of her best Japanese singles if not THE best of her discography. Part II sounds a little sexual…it’s funny because I find that when she switches into “american mode” she becomes a sex fiend…LOL, Overall this isn’t too bad of a follow-up on one of her biggest hits, but I must say it’s not the best song on this album either.
Dirty Desire-Well the title explains it all…again like I said before she’s in “american mode” and a super sex fiend. I find the lyrics in this song kinda hot and it makes me wanna get my groove on…lol…speaking of…
Poppin’-I actually like the overall feel of this song…and not many people like this song as far as I can tell. I don’t really listen to this song cause the lyrics aren’t that great, but the beat is so “jazz influenced” that it makes me think of this song as pure hotness!
Come Back To Me-The leading single from this album… I find this song to be a really easy listen, she uses her vocals really well when delivering certain notes. She really is one of the best when it comes to actually being able to sing a ballad properly.
Me Muero-Eww…Don’t like it…enough said!!!
Overall this album is actually a good follow-up to Exodus…which if you ask me was pure gold and sad that it sold so little but provided such great material!!!, Oh well, anyways this album is good enough to listen to, so give it a try.
